LAGOS State Government has donated N50 million each to Adamawa, Borno and Yobe to assist the North eastern states cater for thousands of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
Governor Akinwunmi Ambode presented cheques to the benefitting state governments at briefing room of the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, after the Council of State meeting yesterday.
He said the devastating activities of Boko Haram was a big challenge facing the nation today and noted that, although insurgency was basically limited to the North-East of the country, “there is no doubt that the effect is felt everywhere across the federation.”
Ambode recalled that at the just-concluded 21st National Economic Summit in Abuja, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir David Lawal presented what he called a graphic and heart-rending report of the extent of damage and social trauma brought about by insurgency in the region.
“We commend our president for the renewed commitment of the Federal Government to bringing insurgency to a logical conclusion by the year end.”
Meanwhile, IDPs from Borno State currently taking refuge in some camps in Abuja will soon be relocated, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) disclosed recently.
NEMA and FEMA, at a joint press conference in Maiduguri, said 500 IDPs from Gwoza, who are at Apo Mechanic Village camp have indicated interest to return home following a quit notice served them by the owner of the property currently being used as IDPs camp at the FCT.
